Because the Greeks (and Romans) are arguably the most documented civilization ever, gay artists and writers have left their work behind. All we have is that there were certain times in pre-Christian Greece (and Rome) when LGBT were accepted, and they were open about it. A lot of 'Ancient Greece' (a vast 2500-year period that changed a lot every few hundred years) is blown out of proportion, both by conservative homophobes and by 'progressive' passive homophobes (like 'liberals' that are passive-racists).
